
Considered as the first of the châteaux of the Loire, the Ducal Palace, 15th and 16th century, with its wide Renaissance facade framed by polygonal turrets, looks down over a smiling esplanade. The Cathedral of Saint-Cyr-Sainte-Julitte is of mixed Romanesque and Gothic styles.
Nevers is a stop on the well-known pilgrim path to Santiago the Compostela and each year flow thousands of pilgrims to the "Espace Bernadette". Sainte Bernadette of Lourdes is buried in the convent church of Saint-Gildard.
The town is also known for its faience pottery, a skill introduced by Italian craftsmen brought here by the Gonzaga family in the 16th century.
The municipal museum has a fine collections of Nevers earthenware and spun glass. And the "Rue du 14 Juillet" is one of the main streets of the faience pottery districts. Nearby is the Goguin Tower, bastion built on the banks of the Loire in the 12th century.
Place Carnot, is the hart of Nevers. You'll find numerous bars, restaurants, small markets with regional products and all big events take place on the square.
