Château de Bazoches The feudal Château of Bazoches is located midway along a wooded hillside at the site of an ancient Roman post, directly visible from Vézelay (10 km). It was built in de XIIth century and acquired by Maréchal de Vauban in 1675 as a gift from King Louis XIV. Upon arriving in Bazoches, Vauban made many changes and converted it into a military garrison. In Bazoches, and particularly in the large, recently remodelled Château gallery, Vauban, the founder of Engineering, carried out the studies and drawings of 300 works and fortified towns, and developed attack and defence methods for fortifications. The current owners, descendants of the Maréchal's oldest daughter, Charlotte de Vauban, have carefully preserved many opulent furnishings from their famous ancestor.
